My Dad throws, hits, golfs and bowls right-handed. IMNSHO as a born leftie, I think this tendency towards ambidextrosity (!) is a result of lefties being more likely to be forced to adapt to right-handed style than vice versa. This thread flies in the face of all of that. a significant portion of the ambidextrious population were actually left-handers). You know, I seem to remember a lot of discussion and experiments in college made on the basis that lefties are actually ambidextrious, this from the notion that more lefties seemed to be able to accomplish more with both hands (i.e. So as a southpaw, I can't use the sniper rifle in a crouched position at all. With Xbox Halo normal mapping, the right analog stick is used for aiming, so you can crouch with the left analog stick, and aim with the right analog stick. Now since I use the left analog stick to aim, it makes it a bit more difficult to aim and crouch at the same time. On the Xbox, crouch is always mapped to the left analog stick trigger. Southpaw works fine, but where I run into issues is trying to aim and crouch at the same time. If I'm playing Halo PC, I just remap the controls and everything's fine and dandy.

It seems like my brain plays Halo Xbox the same way it plays PC FPS, where my right hand handles the strafing (wasd->right analog stick), and my left hand handles the aiming (mouse-> left analog stick). I'm left handed and have never understood changing a controller, or moving a mouse, because I'm left handed. In other words, if I want to be competitive with my friends, will I need to learn the right handed scheme? Am I wrong? Are the inherent disadvantages to the Southpaw setup really that bad? Can I be play as a Southpaw, or will I needed to give up all I've ever known?

This is pure misery, for my left brain thinks right, and my right brain thinks left, and my master chief looks like he's downed a few too many drinks. Argh!Īfter several close defeats, I've decided to try and become Halo ambidextrous. I have to keep the right thumb in the forward position, slide quickly off to hit "a", and then immediately resume position on the stick. What a major tactical disadvantage! Additionally, jumping forward requires quite a bit of dexterity. None of the setups allowed me to remap crouch to the right handed analog stick. With S-controller set on Southpaw/GreenThumb, it was completely impossible for me to crouch and aim at the same time. But it's only been recently, when I've stepped away from my casual Halo gaming into friendly competition, that I've noticed how lacking the lefthanded controls are. Every other setting seems to have a major disadvantage for a lefthander (like zooming issues), so I've stuck with that control scheme. The setup that's been most natural for me is Southpaw / Greenthumb. Now I had no problem admitting that his skills were better than mine (that's what happens when you've hardly played for 6+ months), but what irked me was the total disadvantage of being a left-handed videogamer. Having been distracted by Soul Calibur II and PGR2 for the last 6 months, I was in no shape to challenge him. He was proud of his newfound Halo skills and wanted to show me. My friend came over a couple of weeks ago after getting his Halo Special Edition XBox.
